UIS Microdata Collection
UIS Microdata Collection
This microsite provides guidance for microdata submission and links to two submission options for national statistical offices and other data providers.
1. About UIS Microdata Collection
How UIS handles submitted microdata
The UIS requests countries to submit microdata to produce SDG 4 indicators and support national reporting through the UIS Data Browser. To reduce disclosure risk, UIS does not publish national estimates based on fewer than 25 unweighted observations.
Any UIS reports or other publications that employ data obtained will cite the source of data.
Original data will not be copied or made available to anyone other than selectively authorized UIS staff.
2. Submission approaches
Choose the submission approach that fits your workflow
UIS supports two alternative approaches for microdata submission.
Short data submission form. A simple form-based facility for submitting microdata and essential survey metadata and documentation. It is suitable when a lighter process is preferred, or when structured metadata are not yet prepared.
NADA data deposit facility. This option supports submission of structured metadata alongside microdata. It requires users create an account prior to submission.
3. Documentation and protection
Supporting materials and safeguards
Questionnaires, codebooks, manuals, and survey metadata are essential for interpretation, processing, and quality review. Your submission package should include both data files and supporting documentation.
UIS stores submissions in a restricted environment, limits access to authorized personnel, and tracks each submission using a unique submission ID and an audit trail.
